Golstream River

The Goldstream River feeds into Finlayson Arm and hosts a massive annual salmon run in the Fall that sees thousands of spawning salmon, hundreds of seagulls, eagles everywhere you look and a resident black bear filling up for the winter. The trails wind alongside the Malahat highway out of Victoria, though you still feel away from it all on trails that roll up and down along the steep sides of the valley on either side of the river.

Highlights of these trails includes the old growth forest at the mouth of the Goldstream River, an old opening to an abandoned mine on the Gold Miners Trail, the old railway trestle that is accessible and offers views 365 feet above the canyon floor and our own, much less famous and smaller Niagara Falls, still an impressive 156 feet tall.

Our typical route through Goldstream is between 75 and 90 minutes depending on pace. Runs at Goldstream can be combined with Mt. Finlayson as they start from the same place and can also be done from our Swallows Nest property, with the option for a bonfire and BBQ at the end.
